Sugar Kelp - Saccharina latissima

Sugar Kelp, also known as kombu, is a sweet and salty, umami-rich seaweed that is the backbone of Japanese cuisine but can be used in many other food applications. A particularly great source of Iodine and the natural sweetener, Mannitol.

Wakame - Alaria esculenta

A relative of Sugar Kelp, this nutrient-dense sea vegetable is versatile across a number of sweet and savory applications, imparting its mild flavor and umami to dishes.

Dulse - Palmaria palmata

Dulse is a beautiful, red seaweed known for its rich, robust, almost meaty flavor. Savor its toothsome umami in stews and beans, wrap it around scallops, sprinkle it on eggs, or eat it on its own for a tasty, nutritious snack! The possibilities are endless! A great source of iodine!

Laver (Unprocessed Nori) - Porphyra umbilicalis

Laver is a highly nutritious red seaweed, beloved in Wales where it is traditionally used to make a breakfast oatcake called lavercake. Laver creates a gel when boiled. It has a mild umami flavor, suitable for soup, bread, salad, and more! Its high nutrient density has at least one study describing it as the best non-animal source of vitamin B12. Laver’s high nutrient content, including iron, iodine, folate, but especially vitamin B12, make this seaweed a must-have for vegan and vegetarian cooking.

Sea Lettuce - Ulva lactuca

Sea lettuce is a vibrant, green seaweed that grows in tidal areas the world over. It has the highest iron content of any seaweed we carry. Sea lettuce has a unique, sweet, and salty aroma and complex, rich flavors of the sea. It works well in soups, as seaweed salad, and mixed into smoothies. Great source of nutrients including iron, calcium, iodine, and magnesium!

Irish Moss - Chondrus crispus

Irish moss is a red algae best known as a major source of carrageenan (up to 55% by weight!), a vegan gelatin. Try it out as a vegan option in place of gelatin, or use it to thicken sauces, roux, and smoothies! High nutrient density; a great source of iodine, magnesium, iron, and manganese!

Furikake

Ocean’s Balance’s Bonito Furikake seasoning has no oil, reduced sugar and salt, and is made with umami-rich seaweed from the clean, cold waters of the Gulf of Maine. Sprinkle it on avocado toast, poké bowls, eggs, noodles, rice or your favorite grilled protein. (Note: Bonito Furikake contains fish.)
